Community and Evacuation Center Grand Opening
The 45,000-square-foot Caldwell County Community and Evacuation Center officially opened. The $22 million facility provides emergency shelter for up to 360 people during disasters and functions as an event venue accommodating 600+ guests.

Caldwell County sits in the heart of Central Texas, about 35 miles south of Austin. The county seat, Lockhart, is internationally recognized as the Barbecue Capital of Texas — a title enshrined by the Texas Legislature in 2003.
Founded in 1848 and named for Mathew Caldwell, a soldier of the Texas Revolution, the county covers 546 square miles of rolling blackland prairie and post oak savanna.
