Commissioners recognize Progressive Club for contributions

Caldwell County commissioners signed a proclamation recognizing the Caldwell County Progressive Club during Black History Month. The club was organized in 1974 by four people - Ammie Carter, Jr., Hiawatha Franks, Sr., Nathaniel “Bubba” Bennett Jr., and Homer Williams, Sr – who wanted to address a shortage of scholarships for Black graduates of Lockhart High School. The club awarded its first scholarships in 1975. Since then, the organization has awarded over 200 scholarships. Click here to read the full proclamation.

Burn ban remains off

Commissioners voted to leave the burn ban off for another two weeks at the recommendation of Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management Chief EMC Hector Rangel. The emergency management chief told citizens that conditions were good thanks to the recent rainfall and humidity, and advised them to burn natural brush now while they were able. KBDI measurements remain well under the threshold for drought conditions.

• • Approved a development agreement between the county and Dale 32, LLC for Mesquite Meadows, a 22-lot subdivision at FM 672 and Barth Road.
  • Nominated Pct. 2 Commissioner Rusty Horne to serve on the board for Community Action of Central Texas, Inc.
  • Reappointed Jen Childress to the ESD No. 2 Board of Commissioners.
  • Appointed Andrew Reyes to serve on the Caldwell County ESD No. 4 board. Reyes fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Coralon Busch.
